okokok. so it's been a while. here's a BIG CHUNKA UPDATE for ya to make up for it.
i almost got to go into space last night in my dream. it was because of rebecca, too; she and i were invited because of her mad lab technician skeelz. my space boots did not fit correctly, and i woke up randomly in the middle of the night (WEIRD!!! I SLEEP LIKE A ROCK) before blast-off... v. dissapointing.
i have to work late AGAIN tonight in an essentially baby-sitting position. i have to set up a video conference to hong kong so an interview can take place at 7 pm our time and then babysit the candidate while he is in the office. they told me it was yesterday... i waited and waited and no candidate, and amazingly enough no irritated interviewers on the other end of the v.c. yep, somewhere the message got mixed up and the interview is actually scheduled for today. so i get to stay again, which conveniently makes me miss my bus on day 2 of The Great Bus Experiment - in which our heroine actually gets to the bus stop in time, unlike day 1, only to discover there is no bus, again. She discovers that a later bus will take her to the Friendship Heights metro, which is only one metro stop away from her office, and she takes this route which gets her to work a bit late. Once at the office, she researches the route and discovers that the WMATA route generator told her a time (8:13) for the bus which is significantly later than the actual arrival time of the bus (8:06). Well, no WONDER she keeps missing it.
it's going to snow tomorrow and into friday. i no longer feel any excitement whatsoever at this prospect. our heating bill was astounding this month. i'm ready for spring, dammit. but i desperately hope the schools close tomorrow, because my office follows the montgomery county school closing policy, and if it's going to snow, i should at least get out of going to the office, right?
at least during our mad-cap three-day dash to florida and back (did we seriously think we could do that in two days if i didn't have president's day off?) we got to pick oranges in our shirt-sleeves in r.'s parents' backyard on sunday and sit in the sunshine and grill outside. so THAT is why people vacation in florida.
my brother also cooked a fantastic meal for us... he's a great cook but i wonder if he's ever heard of cleaning up the kitchen as you go along. dang, boy.
i was so out of it during that visit... i could not seem to process more than one info stream at a time which is a problem when trying to a) visit with DB and DSIL, b) pay attention to beloved 3yo niece who wants to play hide and seek, dress up, and draw all at the same time, c) eat dinner, d) not ignore DG (dear girlfriend), e) visit with ex-boyfriend (from back in the day when i had boyfriends and dated my brother's friends) and f) watch zoolander. that is a lot of information to process even when you don't feel like your head is floating about 4 feet above your head, which i did. ah well.
my house is still a freaking mess. but the dog hasn't eaten anything yet, which is a good sign. maybe this weekend will be the weekend, the weekend where we Get Things Done.
i was really hoping to go to the Y tonight, get my 2 miles in, like i haven't been able to do because i was sick and couldn't breathe good and then because we were driving for 27 hours in three days.
since we were right by the speedway, we watched the Daytona 500. i had never actually watched a NASCAR race before, figuring that cars going around in a circle for 500 miles would not be fascinating. and indeed, i got a lot of knitting done, but amazingly i followed the race with interest and somehow decided i was a dale, jr. fan, learned what a caution is and all sorts of NASCAR-y goodness. it's no football, but it made for an enjoyable sunday afternoon. who'da thunk it...
i'm working on savannah's poncho, but i'm worried about the proportions coming out right. the yarn is knitting up pretty, i've named it sherbet sunrise... but it doesn't feel all soft like i'd hoped. i've also started a hat and a beautiful lace scarf i've named Burning Leaves - out of knitpicks alpaca shimmer in maple leaf. oh, it's scrumptious, but it's a complicated chart and requires much concentration, which means no bus knitting. it may be done by next fall. in my dreams after the space dream, i had yards and yards of it done and just buried myself in soft, breezy maple-leaf colored lace. i had a knitting porn dream. sheesh.
and then there's the little matter of the matching sock to the one i knit for rebecca, but i'm so disappointed that i made it a bit too short for her foot that i'm reluctant to start the mate. i suppose i could rip it back... if i can manage to undo my crappy, halfassed kitchener graft on the toe.
